Junior Statesman of America

On high school campuses across the country, there are students concerned with what is happening around them—students who are interested in politics and government, foreign affairs, the law, and education. The Junior State of America (JSA) was created by and for these students. Since its inception in 1934, more than 300,000 student members have become active, informed citizens through the Junior State.

JSA is a national organization, from the high school chapter level to the region which coordinates communication with chapters and run two regional events annually, the states which run three large overnight conventions a year, and the national level of general administration.

Dallas Lutheran School’s charter group had a meager beginning during spring semester 2005. The DLS chapter was represented at the JSA spring congress (Galveston) and the fall congress (Austin). Membership in the DLS chapter confers membership in the national JSA organization. Members pay annual “taxes” ($3.00); participation in the congresses is at the member’s expense. The DLS chapter of JSA is chaired by William Collins.

The DLS Chapter meets periodically. Eligibility is open to all 9th-12th grade DLS students interested in the democratic process. Each member is expected to pay a $3 annual tax
